STAFF SPOTLIGHT: RUBY WALTERS

You’re now a PCC employee, can you tell us your role and what you’ll be doing?
I am a newly qualified social worker, my role as a supervising social worker will be to support foster carers by attending meetings, visiting foster carers and children in their homes ensuring they are fully supported. I will also be completing form F’s (application process to become a foster carer) for prospective foster carers which is exciting supporting people with their foster carer application journey.

What are you looking forward to in your role and what are your reflections so far?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people, and supporting people throughout their application as foster carers are amazing and we need more! It has been very interesting and different compared to child protection and reflecting on children’s journeys.

Favourite TV programme or film:
Either Titanic, Hocus Pocus or Peaky Blinders. I enjoy anything that is not horror!

What job would you be doing if you weren’t doing this job?
If I was good at maths and science probably an air traffic controller but to be realistic something to do working with children and families!

Favourite musician at moment:
Rather talk about my favourite food which is Turkish food, I love baklava, Turkish tea and pastries. I also love visiting Turkey.

Something you would like to see different in your work?
Maybe some wellbeing afternoons??? 😆

Any PCC stories so far?
When I was a student with PCC I was able to learn so much about the asylum process in the UK and the hardships young people face. A particular time I enjoyed was supporting a young person whilst he was getting his new flat. It was enjoyable to see the new life he was creating for himself and decorating the home in a way that made him feel most at home.

Also getting chocolate cake on my birthday was great too!
