STAFF SPOTLIGHT – LISA DENTON

How long have you been working for PCC?

Lisa on a recruitment day

This is my second time working with PCC, firstly as a shiny new social Work student back in 2011 when I completed my university placement with them. Was such a great experience that I recently came back for more as a fully qualified, but slightly less shiny, social worker after working in Hackney for 5.5 years, where I managed a contact centre for Hackney’s looked after children.

Favourite TV programme or film:

I love nothing more than getting house cleaned and tickety-boo, fresh PJ’s and a Netflix binge fest on a cold Saturday afternoon, which usually gets dragged late into the night. Mindhunter, The Making of a Murderer, Big Little Lies and Narcos have all given me too many reasons to stay up past bedtime!

Latest favourite films include, Vice, Dragged Over Concrete, Moonlight and Greenbook. Absolutely love a good horror as well…Television wise has to be 24 hours in Police Custody, anything and everything with Louis Theroux, The IT Crowd and last but not least 8 out 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Favourite thing of the job:

Supporting the foster carers to make amazing life changes for the children and young people they work with and care for. Seeing a child thrive and experience positive family life after the challenges, we know most of them have faced, this gives me hope for the future and makes, what can be a stressful job, wholly worthwhile.

Favourite musician at moment:

Wow that’s hard one! Of all time, my desert island musician has got to be the man that is Mr Marvin Gaye. There is no way I can break this down to one at the moment however on my current playlist is H.E.R., Erykah Badu, Childish Gambino, Agnes Obel and Kelly Price.

What job would you be doing if you weren’t doing this job?

DJing in Ibiza or failing that head of Quality Control, where I get to ‘taste test’ all the goods in the following section.

Something you would like to see different in your work:

In my dreams would be monthly PCC spa days, foot massages at the desks, scented candles around the place and maybe a PCC office dog! On a couple more doable whims, let’s get some more bigger plants around the place, and a mirror in the bathroom. Aside from these small changes, PCC is a pretty cool place to work.

Best PCC story:

It’s always my ‘best PCC story’ when children settle into the placements, become part of the Carer’s family and progress well.
